Welcome to the Performing Arts Room!
The Arts Room (room 7) is used for teaching Music, Drama and Dance. The Arts teachers are Mrs. Stinson and Mrs. Crocker. Mrs. Stinson also teaches Phys Ed, and works with the gifted students in the Junior grades.
Let's start with an interview with Mrs. Stinson ...
Q: How long have you been teaching and what/where have you taught?
A: I started my teaching career in 1990 in Vancouver, when I was in the Education Program at The University of British Columbia. I moved back to my hometown of Toronto and taught French, Phys. Ed. and Library until 2001 when I moved to Hamilton. I have been teaching French, Phys. Ed., Library, Music, and Drama with HWDSB since 2006, at Dundana, Lawfield, and then Rousseau since 2009.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: Most of my hobbies involve sports, both watching and doing! I participate in triathlons, so I run, swim and ride regularly. In the winter I ski (both alpine and cross-country). I enjoy watching hockey (especially my favourite team, the Leafs!), and tennis.
Q: Who got the idea to send the gifted students to the Hub to do things like this QR code project?
A: I met with the board's Gifted consultant, Zoe Branigan-Pipe, who gave me the idea to do this project. I was nervous about taking on this project, as I have never done anything like this before, but the students were already very knowledgeable, so it was a learning experience for me too!
Q: What do you do at Rousseau?
A: I teach phys ed, music, dance, drama to students from ELP to Grade 4. I run the Primary Choir, and Rousseau's annual "Jump Rope for Heart" event, which raises money for the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Q: Do you enjoy working with the gifted students?
A: Definitely! They have taught me so much!
Q: Why was this program made?
A: I was given the opportunity to provide an enrichment opportunity to the Gifted students, and I'm very impressed with what was accomplished!
